Case Study

“Tom's elasticity to move effortlessly from big picture to details quickly earned our respect and is what makes him an exceptional consultant for a complex home renovation project.”

- Scott & Diane Bassett

The Challenge

When a Georgetown family embarked on a highly complex renovation project for their home, it was not without trepidation. So intimidating was the assignment, they required more than a high-level visionary to guide the process, but also someone whose attention to the myriad of details could help drive success. They turned to Tom Glass, owner and president of Glass Consulting.

The solution

Relying on years of expertise in historic restoration, preservation and adaptive reuse, and decades spent creating unique, enhanced living environments focusing on architect-designed, full-house renovations, Tom presented a color-coded set of plans designed to help demonstrate how it would be possible to transform a 2,200 sq. ft. 4 bedroom, 1bath, 1 living area home into a 4,900 sq. ft. 5 bedroom, 4 bath, 3 living area home. In essence, Tom presented a clear roadmap that would transform an 1895 brick home down to a shell, and then to expand and fully restore it to its original charm, complete with modern amenities.

The outcome

The completed renovation bears testament to Tom’s elasticity in moving effortlessly from the big picture to details, quickly, making him an exceptional consultant for complex home renovation projects. In addition, Glass Consulting’s experience proved invaluable to solve unforeseen challenges. In the words of the client, “Tom's skill was such that change orders were kept well below 5% of his original cost estimate – with almost all of them initiated by us.”
